Primarily self-taught as a composer, my music background having been mainly singing in choirs and opera groups, I have always written the type of music that seems natural to me, which is melodic, singable music for voices or instruments, in what is perhaps best termed a classic/romantic style with some 20th and 21st centrury influences. Certainly the bulk of late 20th century "serious" music, and the avant-grade schools of composition never had any apeal to me or influence on my style, which I consider to be rooted in permanent values of musical craftsmanship, and love of consonance, order and structure, that had its highest expression in the "classical" composers. My music wins no prizes nor plaudits from the academic musical world and is never supported by state-run grant-giving organisations. Nevertheless many listeners and performers say they enjoy it. It has mainly been performed in amateur-level concerts, but has also been used for teaching purposes and as background to films and videos. I accept commissions. I am resident in London, UK, and may be contacted at the email address d@davidarditti.co.uk. |
